Short 2025 recap

A lot has happened in 2025, both personally and professionally and in case you have lost track (and do actually care πŸ˜‰), here are a tidbits:

  • My mom gave the family a scare moment by behaving completely erratically, which upon closer inspection turned out to be caused by a sizeable brain tumor. πŸ™€ Luckily it turned out to be easily removable and upon closer dissection also to be benign, so she has completely recovered and is healthier than ever 😌
  • I stopped drinking alcohol πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
  • Me and my kids had a fantastic Japan vacation in the Kansai region 🏯
  • Rust NL created a fantastic RustWeek in Utrecht conference and unconference and 2026 is going to happen in the same fantastic(!) location again. Make sure to not miss it and feel free to try to find me in the pictures and videos πŸ˜‰
  • We had a brilliant BBF summer meeting in my birth town of Munich
  • Rather spontaneously I decided to get new windows and doors for my home and to add (costly) insult to injury, just after filling up my central heater oil tank, a decent heatpump offer came around, which I could not resist πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
  • I decided I needed a career change, so I quit my job at Axiros (again!) after another 15 years πŸ₯Ή
  • Broadband Forum graciously decided they could use more hands on deck and offered me a new position, temporarily indulged as a freelancer. Hence the birth of Standards Consulting πŸ₯³

While far from the best year (but most certainly the most expensive one in my whole life πŸ˜…), it provided me many important realisations, allowing me to make due adjustments and observe growth.

What’s planned for 2026?

First of all, I’m now fully working as Chief architect for the Broadband Forum. πŸŽ‰ Mainly this means I’m fully (rather than part time) emerged in everything standardisation: Development of standards and tools, supporting the membership in every possible way and spreading the word about our work. Of course my other side gigs in OpenSource circles and Rust embedded development leadership will also see some time allotted. I’ve some great ideas in the pipeline but we’ll see what I will be able to accomplish between higher priority tasks but I’m very excited about the whole situation as a whole looking forward to getting things done.

I will you all the best for 2026: health, vision, energy and everything that will follow using those resources. πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³πŸ€
